Grass

Caroline was having the kind of day that tour guides loathe: two groups at once in two different languages! Moving from grove to grove in Versailles, translating the myths twice over while trying to keep everyone where they belonged.

When she and her charges reached Enceladus, the freshly restored grove where a giant strains beneath a landslide of rock, she warned them to keep off the grass.

Off the Grass!

While speaking to her French group she noticed they were snickering and looking behind her.  There was an American standing on the grass looking for a frog that was croaking from the basin. Bellowing “Hey! Off the grass!” Caroline threw her arms up in the air with the universal  “What are you doing?” sign. Vince, not having heard the initial direction about staying off the grass froze in his tracks, turned to Caroline and sheepishly apologized with possibly the only French word he knew:  “Pardon!” and slowly stepped back from the grass.

At the end of the tour Vince thought he’d take the opportunity to ask Caroline out for dinner so that he could apologize for his transgression.

He ate alone…
